About translucent hardware

Translucent or clear cabinet knobs are made from a variety of materials, enveloping a wide range of design schemes.

There are reproductions of cut crystal knobs available, along with glass knobs that are frosted, iridescent, and/or colored. Other translucent materials that knobs are made from include stone such as marble or onyx, and also manufactured materials such as acrylic or lucite.
This family of hardware ranges in light reflective qualities from translucent to crystal clear. This distinguishes translucent hardware from hardware made from wood, metals or porcelain. There are many varieties of translucent cabinet knobs available; one of these may be incorporated into your kitchen style and give a fantastic play of light through this space.
The most opaque of these types of hardware is fashioned from natural stone. Marble has four basic color groups: black, red, white and green. Onyx is another opaque stone that is made into knobs. Hardware that has iridescent qualities can have an overall iridescent sheen. Knobs with iridescent qualities can also have swirls of translucent material within clear glass adding, with amazing variation, adds a touch of elegance to otherwise clear glass knobs. There is hardware in this category that is frosted or clear, and is available in materials other than glass, such as plastics like Lucite or acrylics. Handles and pulls are typically made from the plastics, because of their durable, non-breakable properties.
Translucent hardware often brings to mind the cut glass knobs that hail from the Victorian era. Today’s styles that go beyond the basic round, there are shapes available approximating an oblong, an egg, a diamond and many more. Other modern variations are essentially thick disks or cylinders fashioned rather like a chef's hat. You can also find glass knobs also fashioned in forms from nature, such as leaves or seashells. With the variety available in translucent hardware, there is a style that can be used in your design scheme.
