About black hardware Black hardware has become a popular look for cabinetry in recent years.
Because hardware today is available in a large variety of materials and
finish colors, black cabinet hardware is widely available. Although
black hardware looks best on cabinetry of lighter tones that creates a
dramatic contrast between the dark hardware and the lighter cabinet
wood. Some may choose to use black hardware on darker cabinetry,
complementing the cabinetry rather than contrasting sharply with the
material of the cabinets.
Black hardware can be used with many types of cabinet styles, so whether
your taste is modern or old-fashioned in flavor, look no further.
Contemporary style black hardware tends to employ an angular,
streamlined design. Often, hinges will be placed on the inside of the
cabinetry, and are invisible when the cabinet is closed. One of the most
popular materials for black hardware is wrought iron. Pewter, and chrome
finishes that use dark stains or alloys to change the color of the metal
are available in many styles also.
For a more traditional or hand made look, many people select wrought
iron hardware and accessories. Even though wrought iron is not as
durable of as other black hardware materials available, it offers
cabinetry a rustic look that many people enjoy. Remember that wrought
iron may rust, so always choose a durable finish to protect this
particular metal. Overtime, antique brass develops a blackened color especially in the crevices in the designs, and although is not as black as iron or pewter, may provide the black hardware look that you desire. Because brass is the most durable hardware material, it provides an excellent option for those who do not wish to replace their hardware every couple of years.
With a variety of black hardware options available in all sizes, forms,
and functions, it is easier than ever to find the right hardware option
for you.
